Pick and mix your favourite walks and cycle routes.
A relatively flat cycle ride alongside and under the Cotswold Escarpment with lots of history to see. The route will take you on quiet country lanes and through quaint villages, such as Childswickham with its differing building styles, Aston Somerville on the edge of the Vale of Evesham renowned for market gardening, and Toddington, the home of the Warwickshire and North Gloucestershire narrow gauge railway. Enjoy a leisurely lunch in Winchcombe before continuing your ride back to Broadway, with a myriad of highlights along the way, including Hailes Abbey, the magnificent Jacobean Stanway House and the picture-perfect village of Stanton.
A more challenging but rewarding cycle ride with stunning views. Leaving Broadway, cycle through the charming village of Willersey before the first hill to Chipping Campden. Explore this beautiful wool town and its medieval history before taking the short ride to its little sister, Broad Campden, with an array of thatched cottages. Enjoy a leisurely lunch in Chipping or Broad Campden then cycle up the second hill to Dover’s Hill, the site of the "Cotswold Olimpicks” with fantastic views over the Vale of Evesham. Continue the ride along the top of the Cotswold Escarpment to the iconic landmark of Broadway Tower, then descending slowly past the lavender farm to the beautiful Cotswold hillside village of Snowshill and back to Broadway.
A wonderful walk visiting some of the most famous Cotswolds landmarks and offering peaceful walking across open fields and emerald green hills. The walk starts by visiting Broadway Tower, the iconic 18th century folly from where there are fine views across the vale. Follow the Cotswold Way to Dover’s Hill, the venue of the annual "Cotswold Olimpick Games” and enjoy fantastic views over the Vale of Evesham before descending into the picturesque market town of Chipping Campden. Continue the walk towards the picture-perfect village of Saintbury with its fine church, then walk across wide-open pastures before you arrive back to Broadway where an array of fine houses and inns flank the 'broad way'.
Walk out along the Cotswold Way, enjoying fine views to the west before crossing the picturesque Littleworth Wood. Continue the walk to the idyllic village of Snowshill, enjoy a leisurely pub lunch and visit the 16th-century Snowshill Manor and Garden, where you will find an eclectic and unusual collection of treasures, all bearing witness to the extraordinary life of its eccentric 20th-century owner, Charles Paget Wade and his passion for craftsmanship and design. Continue the walk and meander down into Snowshill valley, gradually descending back into Broadway and walking past St Eadburgha’s Church, the older of Broadway’s two Church of England churches which dates back to the 12th century.
Cycle to the idyllic village of Snowshill, sitting on the top of the escarpment, offering spectacular views over the Severn Vale. The route will take you through the chocolate-box village of Cutsdean, set in the middle of beautiful countryside and with the River Windrush running through it. Cycle on to charming Guiting Power and explore this small village with its church dating back to the 12th century before reaching Naunton, sitting on the River Windrush and known for its listed medieval dovecote. After enjoying a leisurely pub lunch in either Guiting Power or Naunton, continue your tour to Bourton-on-the-Water.
This cycle route will take you through some of the best 'off the beaten track' routes in the Cotswolds. You will cycle through the beautiful villages of Great Rissington and Great Barrington. There is an option to visit Burford with its charming high street sloping down to the Windrush river and Northleach with its beautiful wool church.
A lovely cycle ride taking you through quiet and unspoilt villages. Head out of Bourton and cycle through peaceful country lanes crossing beautiful countryside dotted with picturesque villages before reaching the idyllic village of Kingham with some of its elegant cottages dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. You may wish to take a small detour (1.5 miles) to enjoy a scrumptious lunch at Daylesford Farm with its award-winning organic shop & café. Cycle to Stow-on-the-Wold, the highest of the Cotswold towns, and visit St Edward’s Church which is believed to have inspired Tolkien’s design of the Doors of Durin. Cross the village of Lower Slaughter, considered to be one of the prettiest of the area, before you arrive back in Bourton.
Bourton to Naunton circular walk – 10 miles/16 km
Head out of Bourton along the Windrush Way to Naunton with its picturesque village and pub for a welcome break at the half-way point. Return along the Warden's Way via valleys and woodlands through Upper and Lower Slaughter.
Bourton-on-the-Water circular walk – 5 miles/8 km
A shorter version of the above walk, turning back halfway, before reaching Naunton and walking back to Bourton through the idyllic villages of Upper and Lower Slaughter.
Head out of Bourton and walk to the village of Wyck Rissington, best known for its famous resident, composer Gustav Holst who was the organist for the local church in the 1890s. Continue your walk surrounded by the picturesque Cotswolds hills and arrive in Bledington (named after the nearby river Bladon) that was probably established in late Saxon times. You may wish to take a small detour (1.5 miles) to enjoy a scrumptious lunch at Daylesford Farm with its award-winning organic shop & café. Meander through beautiful countryside before reaching the charming market town of Stow-on-the-Wold, home to some of Britain's best antique shops. After exploring the town, you may wish to take the bus back to Bourton or continue your walk back to your accommodation (4 miles).
