The best walking in the shortest time - this tour takes you through some of the most scenic and historic parts of the Cotswolds. It starts in Cheltenham Spa in the south and ends in Moreton-in-Marsh in the north, both of which are easily accessible by rail from London and major airports.
The route leads across rolling hills and through charming villages, passing landmarks such as Belas Knap long barrow, Hailes Abbey, and Sudeley Castle, providing a glimpse into the region's rich history and cultural heritage.
The tour balances gentle exploration with opportunities to experience the Cotswolds’ unique character. The highlights of the tour are villages like Stanton, Winchcombe, and Blockley with historic churches and traditional limestone cottages, and the local attractions such as Broadway Tower and famous gardens such as Hidcote and Kiftsgate Court Gardens. I finally have a chance to reply and to let you know that our hiking tour in the Cotswolds was exceptional! It certainly exceeded our expectations. From the moment I made contact with Adam describing the trip we wanted, he was organized and professional. He created a perfect hiking experience for us that was exactly what we hoped for. All of the accommodations we had were wonderful. The hiking from town to town was simply beautiful. What a great asset to have those public paths everywhere! Having all the trails downloaded to GPS made the navigating so easy. We ran into other hikers trying to read their paper maps in the rain and having a hard time. I just put my phone in a plastic bag and it worked great. We rarely got lost, but when we did the GPS let us know! Just a fabulous trip all the way around and we have already decided we want to do it again. We will definitely use Cotswold Walks the next time and will recommend your company to anyone who is interested.

My husband and I had a fantastic time on the Cotswold Line! Three days and four nights was the perfect length for our first rambling trip. We were really thankful for the pair of hiking poles. We each carried one and found it really helped walking up and down hills and through uneven fields. The route notes were very clear, but it was good to have the app as a backup.

Our four days of walking in the Cotswolds were wonderful. The highlight of our two week visit to England. We loved the sense of being away from everything. My husband and I had a terrific experience with Cotswold Walks (C.W.) and we can highly recommend this company for your Cotswold experience. We completed a four day walk (33 miles) from Cheltenham to Moreton-in-Marsh with support from Inn to Inn (i.e. they transported our luggage each day.) The online process for arranging our walk was easy and straightforward. We simply contacted C.W. (with less than three weeks until our departure date!) and they replied promptly with all the information and payment details. Prior to leaving, we received detailed information at our home in the U.S. (Note: it is important that you take this information with you as you will use it every day on your trip.) One of the things that was great about this walk is that the scenery varied each day. There are always green fields and sheep, true, (such adorable lambs in the spring) but there are also always increases in elevation into forested areas and through picture perfect villages.

We made a couple of wrong turns but nothing we couldn't figure out to get us back on the right track. We had the most amazing weather too -- sunshine and no rain the entire time. It was a great experience to walk through the magnificent Cotswold countryside. The weather was perfect, the accommodations were appropriate to allow us to feel as if we were "locals", and the towns we visited were quite interesting. We especially enjoyed Broadway and our dinners at the Broadway Hotel pub and Russell's. We also spent a lovely evening at dinner in Chipping Campden at a restaurant and bar offering some 30+ different gin, tonic and fruit combinations. I don't recall the name, but it was next door to the Fig. The guide instructions were very detailed. Having said that, we did find ourselves "off track" two or three times, but we were able to figure it out. Our most interesting moment on our walk was commenting about a sign which read "Bull in field". We laughed and then looked and there, indeed, was a very large bull surrounded by other cattle, standing directly on the path we needed to access. We decided to take a longer, less direct route through that field! All in all, a most memorable trip. Thank you and your team for your guidance and flexibility. Ill send you a picture or two. Cheers.

We really enjoyed our walk. Lots of beautiful views, farm animals, good breakfasts, interesting stops, and great accommodations each evening. We purposely chose shorter distances on this walk so that we could enjoy the villages and have time to relax. We especially enjoyed the Apple B&B in Broadway and the inn in Moreton-in-Marsh.
Our only suggestion is that the first part of the walk, from Cheltenham race course to the top of the hill, was confusing. You may want to have some one walk it to make sure of the directions although maybe we missed something. Luckily we met a dog walker at the top who got us on the right path. The rest seemed pretty straightforward with only a couple of trial and error spots. Thanks for planning a memorable walk!

Dear Kathleen, thank you so much for your feedback, we encourage everyone to download the OS map to their phone before you arrive, (which you should receive in advance), which can help remedy any confusion. We have also added photos to our route notes to help clarify the route.
Thanks to you we had a lovely holiday in the Cotswolds. All of the accommodations were very clean and suitable. Your recommendations of Places to Eat and Drink were very helpful. Favorite pub was the Crown and Trumpet in Broadway. Our room in The White Hart Inn in Winchcombe was really a challenge with its extremely low ceilings and the very steep stairway. Our favorite B&B accommodation was at Windrush House in Broadway which was definitely the most spacious. Our hosts at Windrush and Clematis House in Cheltenham were the friendliest. Unexpected delights on the walk were finding Father Brown's Church in Blockley when we stopped at the cafe for lunch, and visiting the falconry centre outside of Moreton-in-Marsh. We also enjoyed Sudley Castle in Winchcombe very much. Your route notes were excellent. Their detail used in conjunction with the OS map app allowed us to confirm our location at various points along the way. All in all we would rate the variety of services provided by Cotswold Walks - organizing the accommodations, the detail of the walk notes, providing for the moving of luggage, the info on services and attractions along the way - to be well worth the price. I have been home from my UK trip for three days now, and I want to express my gratitude for your work to make my Cotswold holiday the experience of a lifetime! It was brilliant! Thank you for being available to put together a quality experience on short notice. The inns you booked for me were simply fantastic. I loved every one of them, and the White Hart Royal in Moreton-in-Marsh was a great way to end the long walking tour in luxury. I wasn't expecting it to be so posh! I really enjoyed Harry and Douglas at Hill House in Bath, too. What lovely hosts.
I was born in the Suffolk area of England, so I am a dual British/American citizen, but I have only been back as an adult this time and once two years ago. Walking through such beautiful places last week was accompanied by frequent thoughts of "We could live here when we retire!"
We had some unusual weather last week, with those high winds, but at least it didn't rain much (until I got to Bath), and it didn't diminish the wonder of being in such a verdant, gorgeous place.

As far as logistics goes, the walking guides were wonderful and we never got lost. All of the accommodations were great and the luggage transfer worked perfectly. I do have some feedback items for you:
The Wesley House meal was amazing. Totally worth the expensive dinner and the breakfast was great too. Some of the best food we had on our whole trip!
I would personally recommend people do this hike anytime besides the summer when it isn’t scorching hot and all brown. I would have loved to see the Cotswolds in its natural green, lush state but maybe next time!
The Manor House level of service was a god send after our long hikes. We enjoyed the personal service and room service after a very long two weeks! : )

Thank you so much for your feedback, usually, the summer landscape is quite green and not overly hot, but in 2018 we had an unusually long spell of hot weather from spring to July.
We had a wonderful walking experience. The accommodation was good and convenient to both creature comforts and the start of each walk in all our stays. We especially enjoyed “The Old Bakehouse”; a charming character home and Zoe is an excellent hostess. We very much appreciated that she gave us an early breakfast so that we could get out on the path by 7 am. The heat by midday was quite a problem in the week that we walked. The scenery was marvellous and we were so fortunate with the good weather as the paths were firm and not muddy.
The luggage was always waiting for us when we arrived at each destination and we had no logistical worries. Thank you!
- Best food – Montpellier in Cheltenham.
- Best icecream – by far – at a stall outside the Tearoom in Broadway.
- Many lovely art galleries in Broadway.
- Kifsgate Gardens and Hidcote were worth the extra long walk.
- Batsford Arboretum also worth a detour.
We only got lost by a field or so once or twice but were able to correct before going too far off. Cleeve Common was a bit of a challenge on Day 1 to find the pond and then to get off the Common to Belas Knap but we did some unorthodox cross-country and found it. Proud of ourselves. The whole walk was an achievement for us as ‘non-walkers’ and due to this success we will definitely tackle another walk when next we travel.
Tip for newbies – always read to the end of the sentence – and never assume – always check back against the description, map and the photos.

I just wanted to drop you a note to let you know how very much we enjoyed our walking tour of the Cotswolds. It was a great itinerary, and my daughter and I had a truly memorable vacation together.
All of the accommodations were very nice, but I’d like to specially recognize the following:
Windrush House - We were met with a cup of tea and an amazing homemade Millionaires Shortbread. Kate, and her partner were very helpful with dinner plans, and even allowed us to hang our washing in their back yard. I will want to return here someday for sure.
Ambleside Guest House - Again, our hosts were really helpful with finding places to eat, and where things to do were. Peter is a wonderful breakfast chef, and we really enjoyed talking to him.
The Lygon Arms - The young ladies here were the epitome of hospitality. I had reserved a place for tea at the Lygon Arms in Broadway without realizing they were different places. When they discovered this, and we realized we couldn’t get there in time, they whipped up a special tea for us.
Thanks again for the lovely trip. I will surely recommend you to our friends, and hopefully have the chance to explore this area of your country further.

Without a doubt, the Cotswold walk was the highlight of my time in Europe. Each day was different and extremely enjoyable. A couple of highlights --
The long barrow above Cheltenham in the mist and rain. I was completely alone and left to contemplate life centuries ago.
The beauty and solitude of Stanton on a grey morning. Unforgettable.
I found each night's lodging to be unique and very comfortable. We had an especially delicious meal at the Lion Inn in Winchcombe. The staff couldn't have been more accommodating.
The GPS map provided was most useful. I found the text descriptions to be a bit confusing at times, but the GPS kept us on track.
I look forward to embarking on another walk in the near future.

The route you designed was exactly right, the accommodations were good. The Bantam Tea Room in Chipping Camden was especially lovely. We loved all the villages we visited and were excited to hike through farmers fields with sheep and lambs. Oh my gosh, it does not get more scenic than that! Your directions were, by in large, clear and detailed - a couple of times when we got “stuck” we figured it out - or met someone on the track who set us straight.

We had a wonderful time on our walking tour of the Cotswolds. The walking guide was excellent and fun to work with, the accommodations were just what we were hoping for and the luggage transportation worked perfectly. All of the accommodations were very good. We definitely prefer B&Bs and small inns to large hotels. The food along the way was also very enjoyable, both imaginative and traditional. We were lucky in the weather, too. A good amount of sun and no rain. Using the Ordnance Survey app was very helpful in confirming that we were on the right path. On two occasions we made a wrong turn, but were quickly able to get back on track. We’d definitely like to take more walking tours. Next time we might include layover days to have more time to explore some of the villages and towns.

Jack and I were very pleased with our trek through the Cotswolds; it was a highlight of our trip. It was more of a hike than either of us had expected but we thoroughly enjoyed the challenging experience of ‘orienteering’ the written and map directions through the pleasant Cotswold countryside. For Jack and me, it was a delightful experience. We enjoyed each of the three lodgings we stayed in; each was unique and comfortable. We are hoping to do a ‘Cotswold Walk' again; the only change we might make is to take more time and stay at each location more than one night so we can explore the area a bit more. We had a wonderful experience with Cotswold Walks! I only wish we had had more time. High points include climbing from the village of Broadway up steep fields on a crystal clear morning, each field yielding more expansive views, until we reached the tower at the top. We passed friendly sheep and red deer. The view from the top was spectacular. Our walk to Broadway was beautiful - a perfectly-guided route led us through fields and woods, past fascinating old churches and grand homes, and through picturesque villages. This was a perfect day of history, beauty, well-paced walking, and a grateful homecoming to our hosts. Our taxi driver was prompt, reliable, and a terrific source of local stories. He oriented us to our walk and took us to the train at the end of the walk. He's a treasure. We'd love to come back and do different parts of the route. My husband and I really enjoyed our trip. It's always a little disconcerting for me to try something for the first time but everything went smoothly and we had a great adventure. The directions were all very well written and we never got lost thanks to the guidebook and my husband's navigator skills. He really enjoyed having to read a map since people don't get to do that much anymore since GPS. He found it a fun challenge. I think we were really fortunate with the weather in May when we went. It was sunny and much hotter than we were expecting. We only had to use our rain gear on one day of our walk but we enjoyed that experience as well. It felt very J.R.R Tolkeinish to be wandering across England in the misty rain. Very romantic. Overall: We loved it! We have great memories! It was a special time for my husband and I to be together in the quiet beauty of the English countryside. It was calm, peaceful, beautiful, quiet and idyllic (oh, to live the life of a Cotswold sheep!). The walking was challenging but doable and when we finished each day we really felt like we had accomplished something enjoyable and worthwhile. We loved seeing another country by walking through it. It felt much more real and personal. We had no troubles with any of the logistics whether the accommodations, the directions or our luggage. It was great to leave our luggage and have it "magically" appear at our next destination. It was an extra plus that the weather was sunny and warm although we also enjoyed our day in the rain. Thanks so much for helping make this vacation memorable and enjoyable!

Hi Andrew... just to let you know that we have arrived at the end of our Cotswold Line walk in Moreton in Marsh.
We have had just such a fabulous trip and would like to thank you for your great organisation of hotels and transfers etc, and of course organising the weather was pretty good as well!
Also thanks to Steve for his transfer from the Gloucester Airport Hertz depot and his wealth of local knowledge he shared with us.
Your instruction book was very detailed and absolutely spot on... could not fault it at all!
We will definitely spread the good word both locally and when we return to NZ.

Andrew, We have just returned from your 3 day/4 nights short walking tour from Cheltenham to Moreton in Marsh. We would like to say thank you for an extremely well planned and thought out holiday, including excellent b&b/ Inns. We particularly like the Old Bakehouse at Chipping Camden. Andrew---We just wanted to let you know that our three day/four night walk through the Cotswolds more than fulfilled our expectations. The guidebook was very accurate, and we never got seriously off the plan. Luggage transfer was seamless, and the accommodations were superb. What a gorgeous part of the world! And while I know we can't count on it next time, the weather was perfect as well. We have wonderful photos and even more wonderful memories. I wanted to tell you, despite the weather, we had a wonderful time on our 3 day walk in the Cotswolds! Your book of directions was great, as soon as we acclimated to the terrain, distances and types of gates. By the 2nd day, we didn't make any mistakes! We also thought you recommendations for activities and food were great. We took a taxi to Hidcote and it was well worth it. We also took a taxi back to Chipping Campden and thoroughly enjoyed the Cotswold Olimpicks. My husband came upon you videos and thought they were well done and informative. I cannot thank you enough for confirming he needed waterproof hiking boots. The trip would have been awful without the waterproof part. We did have a marvelous time and since it was our first walking vacation, have decided to take more. Your company's service was perfect. I thought I would comment on the good as well as the not perfect. Thanks so much.

We enjoyed ourselves tremendously despite getting lost twice; but specific recollections are difficult to come by.
Four days proved to be one day too short; but the additional cost of an extra day might make the price a bit too high at least for those of us who suffer from a weak currency vs. sterling.
